Orthodontics will improve your overall smile and eliminate issues with skew or overcrowded teeth.
How do Orthodontics work?
Orthodontic treatment requires the patient to wear either fixed or removable appliances designed to add gentle pressure on the misaligned teeth to correct and improve their position.
This process takes 6 to 24 months, depending on your specific needs. Orthodontics can be either an adult cosmetic treatment with specific focus on the anterior teeth to improve your smile and confidence.
More complicated orthodontic treatment needed to resolve functional occlusion or jaw relation issues involves fixed appliances. This treatment is suitable for both adults and children. Fixed appliances therapy is referred to a specialist orthodontist.
Which orthodontics are best for me?
Removable Active aligner therapy is the placement of removable clear trays fitted over your teeth. A series of trays are fabricated to get your teeth to their final position. Each tray is worn for approximately 1-2 weeks before moving onto the next stage.
Trays are worn for at least 22 hours per day to limit the total treatment time. With this treatment there are no tooth removal needed. This treatment is only suitable for adults. Most orthodontic issues can be improved with this treatment. Average treatment takes 6-9 months. After treatment completion a fixed or removable retainer will be needed to prevent teeth from moving again in future.
Fixed orthodontics is applied with more complex misalignment to correct and improve both dental and jaw relation issues. These cases are done in collaboration with a specialist orthodontist. The average treatment is 24 months.
During orthodontic treatment regular check ups and oral hygiene visit should be continued to avoid possible problems developing.
Clear aligners therapy is reviewed midway through treatment to assess composite attachments & overall movement.
Fixed orthodontics is adjusted as per your specific needs by the orthodontist.
Orthodontics for Children
Included in regular dental examination children are evaluated for any dental or jaw misalignment issues. Most children will only start orthodontic treatment once all permanent teeth have erupted.
